The plan for Michigan basketball is for the end of March to go better than the start of it.
It’s the most important month on the calendar for college hoops with March Madness, yet the Wolverines have gone 0-3 since the calendar turned — a most inopportune time for a nosedive after having only lost consecutive games once prior in its first 28 games.
But that’s the nature of the reality for coach Dusty May’s group, which 10 days ago had designs on winning a Big Ten regular season title. Instead, the Wolverines finished tied for a distant second with Maryland (U-M lost the head-to-head tiebreaker and is the 3-seed in this week’s Big Ten tournament) three games back of rival Michigan State.
For much of the past couple of months, like when the NCAA tournament committee released its initial rankings in February, U-M found itself on the 4-seed line. Is that still the case after a rough skid?
