Florida finished the college basketball regular season 2-0 with wins at Alabama and against Ole Miss, and the AP Top 25 voters have moved the Gators back into the No. 4 spot of the poll as a result.
The Orange and Blue aren’t the only team to see changes in the poll ahead of the postseason, as every member of last week’s top five shifted. Duke has taken over the top spot in the rankings, earning 23 of 61 first-place votes, and Houston also moved up a spot to No. 2 with five first-place votes. Auburn is now down to No. 3 with four first-place votes. Alabama, the team that beat Auburn over the weekend, jumped back into the top five, but still trails No. 4 Florida by more than 100 poll points.
All three SEC teams listed above have byes in the first two rounds of the SEC Tournament, with the final round scheduled for next Sunday — the day the poll is updated. It’s hard to see any of the teams moving over the next week, but Florida and Alabama could face off again in a Saturday semifinal.
SEC schools in Coaches Poll top 25
The Southeastern Conference is down to seven representatives in the AP Top 25, with Mississippi State dropping out this week. The No. 3 Auburn Tigers remain the highest-ranked SEC program in the land, followed by No. 4 Florida and the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tennessee Volunteers dropped four spots to No. 8, and the Texas A&M Aggies and Kentucky Wildcats occupy the Nos. 14 and 15 spots, respectively.
The Missouri Tigers round out the list of ranked SEC teams at No. 21, and the Ole Miss Rebels are the only other program from the conference to earn votes this week (17 poll points; unofficial No. 34).
