Who will Iowa basketball play in 2025 Big Ten Tournament?

Iowa went into Pinnacle Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon and handed Nebraska a Senior Day spoiler, topping the Huskers, 83-68.

Senior forward Payton Sandfort led the way for Iowa with 22 points on 9-for-18 shooting. With the win, Iowa (16-15, 7-13 Big Ten) punched the final ticket into the Big Ten Tournament, denying Nebraska an opportunity in the conference tournament.

Iowa earned the No. 15 seed and will play 10th-seeded Ohio State (17-14, 9-11 Big Ten) on Wednesday, March 12 at 5 p.m. CT in a game that will stream on Peacock. The Hawkeyes matched up with the Buckeyes once already this season, falling 82-65 in a Jan. 27 contest in Columbus, Ohio.

Iowa graduate guard Drew Thelwell was the Hawkeyes’ leading scorer in that contest with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting. But, Ohio State shot 48.4% in that game and outrebounded Iowa, 43-31.

If Iowa can beat Ohio State, the Hawkeyes would square off against No. 7 seed Illinois (20-11, 12-8 Big Ten) on Thursday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m. CT in a game that would air on Big Ten Network. Iowa lost at Illinois, 81-61, on Feb. 25. Iowa sophomore guard Brock Harding was Iowa’s leading scorer against the Illini with 16 points.

Wins over both Ohio State and Illinois would advance Iowa into the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals against No. 2 seed Maryland in a Friday, March 14 game that is set for a 5:30 p.m. CT tipoff on Big Ten Network.
