EAST LANSING — Michigan basketball has had a couple games this season in which seemingly everything went wrong.

But none will sting quite like Sunday in East Lansing.

Michigan’s Big Ten title hopes evaporated earlier this week, with a loss to Maryland on Wednesday. And though the Michigan State had already wrapped up the league title, the Spartans left no doubt in a 79-62 walloping at Breslin Center.

Tom Izzo’s group unleashed a barrage of 3-pointers which helped the crowd get to a fever pitch. Simultaneously, Dusty May’s team turned the ball over early and often, feeding into what became an MSU tidal wave to close the year, as the Wolverines trailed nearly wire-to-wire in a 79-62 beatdown to end U-M’s regular season with a three-game losing streak..

There was little good for the Wolverines, outside of a 14-0 U-M run in the second half, though that came after a 25-point deficit, and U-M never got within single digits.

Michigan trailed, 33-15, less than 14 minutes in and was only that close because Vlad Goldin had 12 points at the time. U-M’s 7-foot center gave fantastic effort and production, finishing with a game-high 29 points, while Danny Wolf chipped in 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Other than U-M’s “Area 51,” duo, it was arguably the Wolverines’ worst game of the season.

Nimari Burnett finished with five points and four turnovers, Tre Donaldson was held under 10 points for the sixth time in seven games (with two points on 1-for-5 shooting). Roddy Gayle Jr. didn’t attempt a shot, and Will Tschetter missed all four 3-point attempts.

All told, Wolverines not named Goldin or Wolf went 5-for-25 from the floor for 13 points.
