Mar. 9—Three consecutive February losses created doubt about Illinois basketball. Not just because they were losses to good teams. But because the Illini got crushed in that three-game stretch with a 14-point loss to Michigan State followed by a 21-point loss to Wisconsin followed by a 43-point loss to Duke.
Illinois’ response? Three straight wins — by 20 against Iowa, 20 against Michigan and eight after a second-half rally Friday night against Purdue.
“Their response is something I don’t think should be ignored,” Field of 68’s Rob Dauster said.
“This is the Illinois team that six weeks ago, seven weeks ago, that we said, ‘Hey, this may be the best team in the Big Ten,'” former Chattanooga and UMass coach Matt McCall added.
The full Field of 68 “After Dark” podcast from Friday night is below with nearly 12 minutes of Illinois-Purdue discussion all cued up.
