ATLANTA – The Albany State Golden Rams couldn’t hold onto a 10-point second-half lead Thursday night, falling 70-68 to Tuskegee in the SIAC quarterfinals at Frank L. Forbes Arena at Morehouse College.

Albany State had beaten the Golden Tigers twice this season but couldn’t complete the sweep. The Golden Rams finished the season with an 18-12 record, while Tuskegee (15-13) advanced to the semifinals against Clark Atlanta.

Trailing 38-30 at halftime, Albany State took its first lead of the second half at 43-42 when former Sumter County standout Cameron Evans buried a three-pointer with 14:40 left to play. The Golden Rams continued to build momentum and stretched their lead to 10 points, 52-42, after center Jabari Williams tipped in a put-back three minutes later.

Tuskegee, however, battled back. A three-pointer by D’Anthony Pennington tied the game at 59 with 5:40 remaining.

The teams traded baskets down the stretch before Tuskegee’s Kevin Sesberry converted a layup in the final 10 seconds, giving the Golden Tigers the decisive edge. Albany State had one last chance, but All-SIAC point guard Shakur Poteat’s three-point attempt missed as time expired.

Four Golden Rams scored in double figures in the loss, led by Evans with 19 points. He shot 4-of-5 from three-point range and made 5-of-6 free throws. Blaise Wallace added 13 points, G’Shan Aldridge contributed 12, and Poteat finished with 10.
