USC men’s basketball enters regular-season finale trying to make Big Ten Tournament

Not much has gone right for USC men’s basketball over the past month. After a disastrous February, the Trojans were in serious danger of not even making it to the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis next week.

It turned out, however, that what the doctor ordered for USC was actually fairly simple: A game against the worst team in the Big Ten. In their final home game of the season Wednesday night, the Trojans hammered hapless Washington 92-61.

USC was on fire from the field, shooting an incredible 57.7% from behind the three-point line. Chibuzo Agbo and Desmond Claude led the way with 26 and 25 points, respectively, with Claude also contributing 11 rebounds. Rashaun Agee added 18 points, while Saint Thomas’s nine put him past 1,000 for his college career.

With the victory, the Trojans vastly improved their Big Ten Tournament chances. Barring something stunning over the final few days of the regular season, USC will indeed be headed to Indianapolis next week.

Eric Musselman’s first season in Los Angeles will certainly not go down as anything to write home about. But the Trojans will at least have the opportunity to test themselves in conference tournament play, which could prove to be an invaluable experience down the line.

Up first, however, USC will conclude the regular season by visiting UCLA for round two of the Crossdown Showdown. Tipoff from Pauley Pavilion is set for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
