Lipscomb basketball one win away from March Madness after beating Queens in overtime

Lipscomb basketball is one game away from making its second trip to the NCAA tournament after defeating Queens 81-75 in overtime Thursday night in the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament at Allen Arena.

The No. 1 seed Bisons (24-9) rallied to tie the score at 67 at the end of regulation after trailing 57-47 with 7:43 left.

Lipscomb’s Joe Anderson made four of five free throws in the final 23.8 seconds of overtime and the Bisons forced Queens (19-14) to turn the ball over twice in the final 19.6 seconds.

Lipscomb moves into the championship game, where it will face No. 2 North Alabama on Sunday at Allen Arena (1 p.m., CT, ESPN 2). North Alabama defeated Jacksonville 78-63 on Thursday night in the other semifinal.

The winner of the championship game will earn the conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. The only time Lipscomb has played in the NCAA tournament was in 2017-18.

Lipscomb lost to North Alabama 77-75 in quarterfinals of the ASUN tournament last season.

Lipscomb and North Alabama split during the regular season with the Lions winning 74-64 at home on Jan. 23 and the Bisons winning 75-63 at home on Feb. 20.

Anderson, a Furman transfer, led Lipscomb with 25 points Thursday night. He was 4-of-8 on 3-pointers and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Jacob Ognacevic, the ASUN player of the year, added 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Jaxon Pollard came of the bench to lead Queens with 17 points. Leo Colimerio and Yoav Berman each scored 13 points for the Lions.
