Duke basketball has plenty to play for this weekend in Chapel Hill.

Entering their matchup with rival UNC (20-11, 13-6 ACC) on Saturday (6:30 p.m., ESPN) at the Smith Center, the second-ranked Blue Devils (27-3, 18-1 ACC) are aiming to secure an ACC regular-season championship and maintain their standing as one of the top teams in the nation.

ACC Tournament seeding isn’t set and Duke wants to maintain its position at the top in NCAA Tournament projections ahead of Selection Sunday and March Madness.

Here’s a breakdown of where the Blue Devils are ahead of their game against the Tar Heels and what’s at stake Saturday.

Duke basketball ACC Tournament seeding scenarios

Believe it or not, Duke could be as low as the No. 3 seed at the ACC Tournament in Charlotte. With a win, the Blue Devils would complete a record-breaking run with 19 wins in the league and their first outright regular-season championship since 2022. That would give them the top seed at the Spectrum Center, slotting them in Thursday’s noon quarterfinal game.

If Duke loses to UNC, it brings several scenarios into play with Louisville and Clemson. The Cardinals would clinch the No. 1 seed with a victory over Stanford and Blue Devils loss. The Tigers, who handed Duke its lone loss in the league, can clinch the top seed with a win against Virginia Tech, along with losses by the Blue Devils and Cards. In that scenario, Duke would be the No. 3 seed and playing in the 9:30 p.m. game Thursday. If Duke, Clemson and Louisville lose, the Blue Devils will be the No. 1 seed.
