Tad Boyle is a frustrated and dejected man at this point of the season. Colorado is not reintroducing itself too kindly in its return to the Big 12 Conference, heading into the regular-season finale with a 2-17 record.
The Buffs’ problems continued on Wednesday night in United Supermarkets Arena. Down starting point guard and leading scorer Julian Hammond III, Boyle’s team was already in an uphill battle against the No. 9 Texas Tech basketball team, and JT Toppin spent the second half of Tech’s 91-75 victory, making life miserable for the Buffaloes.
After scoring a solid nine points in the first half, Toppin became the center of the Texas Tech offense. The 6-foot-9 forward scored six of Tech’s first eight points to open the second half, then scored the Red Raiders’ next 13 points.
With 7:42 left on the game clock, Texas Tech had 24 points in the second half, 19 of them belonging to Toppin, who finished with a double-double of 30 points and 14 rebounds.

“JT Toppin is playing at a very, very high level,” Boyle said after the game. “We didn’t have much of an answer for him in there tonight. He had his way with us. And it wasn’t just one guy. It was on multiple defenders that we had.”

Colorado plays a rough and physical brand of basketball, evidenced by getting called for multiple illegal screens on offense and getting to the free-throw line 21 times. While Boyle acknowledged Toppin is a matchup problem for multiple…
