The Texas Longhorns got 24 points off the bench from Tramon Mark and 23 points from Tre Johnson to secure a key overtime win over No. 25 Mississippi State in Starkville. The UT men’s basketball team is firmly on the bubble and in need of wins to have any hope at the NCAA Tournament.
Mark and Johnson were a combined 10 of 15 from behind the 3-point line. Texas jumped out to a 76-71 lead in overtime, but the Bulldogs managed to tie the game at 82-82. The Horns made key free throws down the stretch to grab the win.
The Longhorns snapped a three-game losing streak. Texas had won just one game in its last seven.
Texas is fighting for its tournament life and possibly coach Rodney Terry’s job. USA TODAY Sports Bracketology currently projects the Longhorns on the outside looking in at March Madness. But a win on the road against a ranked opponent might take Texas from “First Four Out” to “Last Four In.”
The Horns must keep winning. Texas will host rival Oklahoma on Saturday at Moody Center. The Sooners and Longhorns are in similar bubble positions.
