The North Carolina Tar Heels (20-11, 13-6) avoided a trap game on Tuesday night, doing so in a big way to continue their momentum.

Entering the game with a five-game win streak, North Carolina extended it to six after a dominant 91-59 win over Virginia Tech on the road. And the Tar Heels did it behind the three-point shot, putting together their best performance of the season from beyond the arc.

North Carolina made a season-high 15 three-pointers on Tuesday, finishing the game 15-of-28 in that area. That helped them hit 90-plus points again, the third-straight game they have accomplished that, doing so for the first time since 2017.

They did so on the backs of RJ Davis, Seth Trimble and Ian Jackson.

Jackson led all scorers with 19 points, going 5-of-8 from the three-point line. Meanwhile, Trimble had 17 points while Davis added 15. All of Davis’ points came in the first half as the Tar Heels blew out Virginia Tech in that second half.

North Carolina used their fast break to out-pace the Hokies as they were getting layups and three-pointers almost all night long. That’s usually a recipe for success.

Meanwhile, Virginia Tech struggled on the offensive end. The Hokies shot 37.9 percent from the field and committed 12 turnovers on the game.

The game comes a month after Duke dominated the Tar Heels in Durham. While Duke has at least a share of the ACC regular season title wrapped up, UNC is playing for their tournament lives. The…
