Even with a 5-game winning streak that has them on the outside looking in of an NCAA Tournament spot, the North Carolina Tar Heels still have plenty to prove for a shot at extending their season – by at least a week.

That continues on Tuesday, March 4, with a 7 p.m. tip-off against Virginia Tech in Cassell Coliseum. UNC (19-11, 12-6 ACC) looks to push its winning streak against a disappointing Hokies (13-16, 8-10) squad, one which will undoubtedly look to play spoiler.

Post play is anchoring North Carolina’s hot stretch, most recently with big games from Jae’Lyn Withers and Ven-Allen Lubin, during Saturday’s 92-73 victory over Miami (FL). The Tar Heels continue to start RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau at their two guard spots, while finding success from Drake Powell at small forward. This lineup looks much different – and is producing more – than the 4-guard lineup Hubert Davis used to start.

What exactly does UNC need to do for a shot at March Madness? For one, beat Virginia Tech on Tuesday. An upset victory over Duke Saturday would all but lock in a spot, though a couple ACC Tournament wins couldn’t hurt, either. If North Carolina fails to beat Duke, it’ll need to win the entire ACC Tournament – to make the NCAA Tournament.

The Tar Heels continue shooting the ball well, plus they are rebounding the ball well and converting second-chance point opportunities.
