The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team may have played their way out of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Mired in a three-game losing streak and winners of just one in the last seven games, UT’s bubble may have finally burst. The losing streak includes a bad loss to South Carolina, who were 0-13 in the SEC before the upset.
Right now, USA TODAY Sports’ Bracketology projects Texas as one of the “First Four Out.” That group includes Nebraska, Oklahoma and North Carolina. The “Last Four In” list includes Boise State, Ohio State, Xavier and Indiana, meaning one or all of those four teams have jumped ahead of the Longhorns.
There is still time for the Horns to right the ship and squeeze into March Madness, but it is running out. Texas has a road game at Mississippi State and a home game at Moody Center against Oklahoma before heading off to the SEC tournament in Nashville next week. If Texas can win out and win a few games in Music City, UT should be back in the tournament field.
The problem with that scenario is the Bulldogs are ranked and OU will be as desperate as the Longhorns. Currently, Texas would open the SEC tournament against Arkansas, a team Texas is 0-2 against so far this season. Head coach Rodney Terry’s team will have a lot of work to do if this season is to extend beyond next Wednesday.
