Saturday was a day that kept on giving for Auburn men’s basketball.
The day started with the top-ranked Tigers picking up their first win at Rupp Arena since 1988 thanks to a dominating second half performance. The win over Kentucky then gave Bruce Pearl’s team a share of the SEC regular season championship, the program’s first SEC regular season title since 2022.

Broome, who had a quiet nine points and six rebound in the win over Kentucky, then broke out a “Rocky Top” chant with his teammates. Dylan Cardwell appeared to have broken out a full rendition of “Rocky Top” himself before Broome continued talking.
The celebration on the bus wasn’t the only viral moment of applause for Tennessee by Auburn. Following Mashack’s shot, Pearl went to X (formerly Twitter) and tweeted out “VFL and War Damn Eagle,” with the former referencing his former stint as head coach of the Vols program.
The Tigers had entered Saturday with a two-game lead over Alabama in the SEC standings. The Tigers now have locked up their No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament with two games to go in the regular season. In addition, Auburn likely locked up their top overall seed in March Madness as well.
