SEATTLE, Wash. — Indiana basketball fans brought a taste of Assembly Hall to the West Coast on Saturday afternoon in a 78-62 win over Washington.

There was a large contingent of IU fans in attendance at Alaska Airlines Arena and they closed out the game with chants of “Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers” in celebration of the their team’s third straight win.

That Indiana-friendly atmosphere didn’t go unnoticed by Washington coach Danny Sprinkle.

“Indiana, I mean, it was like the whole place was packed red,” Sprinkle said.

Indiana basketball forward Luke Goode drives to the basket in a 78-62 win over Washington on Saturday, March 1 at Alaska Airlines Arena.

It spoiled UW’s attempt at a White Out — the announced attendance was 7,851 and it appeared Indiana fans made up a third of the crowd — and contributed to the Huskies’ slow start. The Hoosiers jumped out to a double-digit lead before the under 12 media timeout while Washington went more than five minutes without any points.

This was the fifth all-time meeting between the schools, but the first one on Washington’s campus and their first matchup as Big Ten rivals. Indiana is currently 1-1 against the newest members of the conference and will face Oregon to wrap up its West Coast road trip on Tuesday night.

The Hoosiers will practice in the Seattle area on Sunday before flying out to Eugene. The team will end up spending six nights away from Bloomington.

“We had a day to really work when we got out here,” Indiana coach Mike Woodson said. “We didn’t do much today. We left to come out. But yesterday we had a good practice and we worked. We gotta get ‘em ticking again, and I thought today was a nice carry over because these guys played well I thought.”
