Huskers suffer last-second defeat to Minnesota in 67-65 conference clash

The Nebraska Cornhuskers (17-12, 7-11) started the month of March by hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers (15-14 7-11) on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers dropped another close game, letting another win slip through their fingers. With seconds left, the Golden Gophers hit a three-point shot, handing them the lead and the 67-65 win.

This game-winning three shut down Nebraska’s 19-point comeback in the second half. Nebraska entered halftime down 35-26, struggling to keep Minnesota in check.

But after falling behind 47-28, the Huskers clawed their way back but only took a one-point lead with seconds left. Brennan Rigsby then hit the final shot for Minnesota, capping off a team-high 20-point game from the bench.

Nebraska allowed the Golden Gophers to go 27-of-53 from the floor and 10-of-21 from beyond the arc. The Huskers only shot 25-of-57 in total and 4-of-16 from three-point range. They did outshoot Minnesota at the free-throw line, finishing 11-of-20 while the Golden Gophers shot 3-of-5.

Juwan Gary and Brice Williams combined for 42 points on the day for Nebraska, both dropping 21. Gary shot 8-of-14 from the floor and finished 5-of-6 at the free-throw line. Williams landed 8-of-18 total shots and 4-of-5 from the foul line.

Connor Essegian delivered 11 points for the Huskers, finishing 4-of-11 from the floor and a team-high 3-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Nebraska will travel to Ohio State on Tuesday night for its penultimate game of the regular season. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m. CT and the game can be seen on Peacock.
