BREAKING: Status update for Wisconsin guard Max Klesmit entering Michigan State game

[ad_1]

Wisconsin guard Max Klesmit has been ruled out of the Badgers’ game at Michigan State later this afternoon.

Klesmit left early during the team’s win over Washington on Tuesday with a lower body injury. He played in just five first-half minutes and failed to crack the scoresheet. According to Greg Gard, Klesmit is still working to return to 100% after a sprained ankle suffered earlier this season.

Senior guard Kamari McGee is set to enter the starting lineup in Klesmit’s absence. Jack Janicki should also see increased minutes off the bench. Those players will be tasked with replicating Klesmit’s 9.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.7 assist-per-game averages.

Klesmit has mostly struggled shooting the ball this season, making just 35% of shots from the floor and 28.8% from three. His numbers are down across the board from his 2023-24 campaign. Most notably, his three-point percentage has dipped more than 10 points, down from 39.8%.

Wisconsin will need a complete team effort when it takes the court against the No. 8-ranked Spartans on Sunday. Michigan State is tied for first in the Big Ten standings entering the final week of the season. Recent road wins at Michigan and Maryland have further elevated the team as one of the sport’s best.

Wisconsin’s Max Klesmit (lower body) is OUT for today’s game against Michigan State, per a school spokesman.

Averages 9.7 PPG.

Only played five minutes earlier in the week against Washington.

1:30 PM ET on CBS.

Guards John Blackwell and John Tonje will be tasked with carrying the scoring load for the Badgers. Both will need season-best performances in a tough road environment, playing against one of the best defensive teams in the sport.

Tipoff between the Badgers and Spartans is set for 1:30 p.m. ET, 12:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
