LEXINGTON, Ky. — The legacy of this year’s Auburn basketball team will take a new form in the coming weeks, and that starts today.

What the Tigers have done to this point is already impressive. With three games to go in the regular season, they’ve only lost twice. But if they want championships, and to reach the ceiling they’ve set to this point, they’ve need to through a gauntlet of three ranked-on-ranked matchups before heading into postseason play, starting with Kentucky (Noon CT, ABC) this afternoon.

“I think you’ve got to be honest and open about it, I do,” Bruce Pearl said. “And we were before Ole Miss. We went through the whole scenario of, ‘Here’s what we’ve got.’ I took them down the road I just took you guys, of ‘Look, we have to win this game if we’re going to think about winning the championship’.

“They responded pretty well. Now, it’s one thing to respond pretty well at home in front of your crowd, and so they’ll understand where we are at. They understand that right now Alabama and Florida are both in range of a championship based off all of our schedules and the thing just has to be played out.”
