Michigan basketball appeared to be in poor shape on Thursday night when it hosted 14-14 Rutgers. Despite having looked like one of the best teams in the country for a large swath of the regular season, after losing to Michigan State last week on Friday, the Wolverines struggled (yet won) against Nebraska, but then found themselves against the ropes at home against the Scarlet Knights.
Down two with seconds remaining, Michigan guard Nimari Burnett took the ball up to the top of the 3-point arc, let it fly, and it dropped for a buzzer-beater win at Crisler Center, keeping the maize and blue’s Big Ten title hopes alive while sending Rutgers back to New Jersey with its 15th loss of the season.
While the television announcement was good, nothing is better than the local play-by-play. Brian Boesch and Terry Mills were on the call for Michigan radio, and their reaction to the buzzer beater is one for the books.
