OU investigating incident in which fan threw a can toward Kentucky basketball players

NORMAN — OU is investigating an incident in which a fan threw a beer at Kentucky basketball players following the Sooners’ 83-82 home loss at Lloyd Noble Center on Wednesday night, the program announced in a statement.

A video posted on social media taken of the incident shows a beer fly from the crowd toward Wildcats players as they exited the floor. The beverage can nearly struck Brandon Garrison, a former Del City High School and Oklahoma State player, who was credited with a game-saving block for Kentucky.

“We are aware of an incident that occurred following last night’s men’s basketball contest against Kentucky involving the throwing of a beverage can toward players,” the statement read. “We are closely reviewing all available footage and are working to identify involved parties.”

The incident followed Garrison’s block and an exchange with OU freshman guard Jeremiah Fears afterward that left them both having to be restrained.

“We are also in communication with the Southeastern Conference,” the statement continued. “Anyone with information regarding the incident should provide that by emailing [email protected].”

Garrison finished 12 points, four rebounds, three steals and three blocks.

Next, the Sooners travel to face Mississippi at 1 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.
