The stakes have changed.
No. 16/14 Missouri basketball (21-7, 10-5 SEC) is now in control of its own destiny in the SEC Tournament. If the Tigers win out in the regular season, they will earn a double-bye straight to the quarterfinals of the conference tourney.
First, Mizzou will need to get past the team that greatly helped its cause: Vanderbilt.
Vandy (19-9, 7-8) beat Texas A&M 86-84 on Wednesday night in College Station, Texas, to greatly aid its case for an NCAA Tournament berth. It also helped Mizzou, as the Aggies are now a game behind MU in the SEC standings, which means the Tigers do not need any outside help for a top-four spot in the conference.
Missouri is coming off a 101-71 win over South Carolina on Tuesday at Mizzou Arena, which was its fourth double-digit points win in the past five games. The Tigers beat the Commodores 75-66 on Jan. 11 at Mizzou Arena.

What are Vanderbilt’s strengths since last Missouri basketball game?
Twelve games have passed since the Tigers and Commodores last squared off. Vandy has played six games on its home court since then and gone 5-1. That record includes victories over ranked Tennessee and Kentucky and receiving-votes Ole Miss.
The lone home loss in that stretch was to unanimous No. 1 Auburn, while the ’Dores are 1-5 on the road over the same timespan.
So, what makes Vandy so good at home? The odd layout, with the team benches on the baseline instead of the sideline, creates one novel difference.
“It’s a unique place in itself,” MU coach Dennis Gates said.
On the court, the main difference appears to be on defense.
On its home court, Vanderbilt allows 0.990 points per possession. On the road, that number inflates to 1.208, which is in the bottom 2% in the country, according to CBB Analytics.
