Tom Izzo was left off a list of the top ten coaches for this college basketball season

Is Tom Izzo a top ten coach in college basketball this season? One writer doesn’t think so. Matt Zemek of College Sports Wire put out his list of the 10 best coaches in college basketball for the 2024-25 season on Thursday, and Tom Izzo did not make the cut.

This will definitely upset some Michigan State basketball fans, and rightfully so, as the Spartans are coming off yet another huge road win over a ranked opponent.

To be fair, Izzo did get an ‘honorable mention’ in the article, but I do think leaving Izzo off was pretty egregious considering the fact that he has a top ten team without (I think) any All-Americans on his roster. Spartan fans can rest assured that I already chided Matt, who is a colleague at mine at USA TODAY, about the decision to leave Izzo off the list.
