Big USC rally falls short vs Ohio State, Trojans lose 6 of last 7

Another game, another loss for USC men’s basketball. On Wednesday night, the Trojans suffered their latest defeat, falling 87-82 to Ohio State at Galen Center.

USC went down by 15 early in the second half, and the game appeared to be already over. However, the Trojans stormed back, erasing a double digit deficit to tie the game at 80 in the final minute. After that, an Ohio State three-point play followed by a USC turnover allowed the Buckeyes to regain control of the game and win it at the finish line.

The Trojans can at least hold their heads high in knowing that they fought back and made the game tight. Given their current situation in the Big Ten, however, USC is not really in a position at the moment where it can afford moral victories.

With the loss, the Trojans have now dropped six of their last seven games since upsetting a top-10 Michigan State team on February. After knocking off the Spartans, the Trojans looked like they could be legitimate NCAA Tournament contenders. Now, USC is in a dogfight just to avoid finishing outside of the bottom of the Big Ten standings and even make its conference tournament.

USC will finish out the regular season with three conference games against their old Pac-12 foes. Up first is a trip to Oregon on Saturday, followed by a home game against Washington next week and the Crosstown Showdown vs. UCLA the following weekend in Westwood.
