Texas A&M vs Vanderbilt basketball prediction: TV channel, game info for SEC matchup

[ad_1]

For the first time since Jan. 14, Texas A&M basketball enters a matchup losers of two straight games. The Aggies stumbled last week, losing by 16 points to Mississippi State on the road, followed by an eight-point loss to Tennessee at home.

Prior to the skid, the NCAA selection committee picked the Aggies as a 2-seed and the No. 6 team overall in its first ranking of the country’s top-16 teams. Since then, A&M has fallen in the polls, down to 11th in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll and 12th in the AP Poll.

Wednesday’s game (6 p.m., SEC Network) between No. 11 A&M (20-7, 9-5) and No. 6 Tennessee (18-9, 6-8) pits the sixth and 10th teams in the SEC. The Commodores are 2-5 in their last seven games, including a 97-67 loss to Oklahoma on Feb. 1.

The offense continues to hurt A&M

A common theme for A&M this season has been struggles on offense. With streaky shooting and inconsistent output each game, the Aggies are ranked last in the SEC in field goal percentage (42.1%), 3-point shooting (30.6%) and free throw shooting (68.9%).

Despite having the guard duo of Wade Taylor IV and Zhuric Phelps, who average 15.0 and 14.4 points per game, no one else on the team is a double-digit scorer. The high volume of shots between Phelps and Taylor has impacted the Aggies, as the pair is seventh (37.9%) and 10th (36.4%) in field goal percentage on the team, respectively.

The good news for A&M is that Vanderbilt comes into Wednesday’s matchup as the worst-ranked team in the SEC at defending the 3-point line (37.2%) and opponent field goal percentage (46.1%).
