Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo expects the environment on Wednesday night at Maryland to be unlike anything his team has seen yet this season.
Izzo met with the media on Monday ahead of a massive road game at Maryland on Wednesday, and noted that he fully expects a tough environment from the Terrapins’ faithful. Izzo stated he thinks the environment will be even tougher than what the Spartans have recently faced on the road at Illinois and Michigan.
“I expect Wednesday to be like Illinois and Michigan on steroids,” Izzo said (quote courtesy of SpartanMag’s Kenny Jordan).
Michigan State heads to Maryland on a hot streak of three straight Quad 1 wins over the likes of Illinois, Purdue and Michigan. The Spartans currently sit atop the Big Ten standings, and will need a victory over the Terps to keep pace with rival Michigan in the Big Ten title race.
Maryland has also been playing extremely well as of late, with wins in 10 of their last 12 games. During that stretch, Maryland has notable home wins over UCLA, Wisconsin and Nebraska, and impressive road victories over Illinois, Ohio State and Nebraska.
Tip off between the Spartans and Terps is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
Michigan State HC Tom Izzo says that when Maryland is winning their crowd is among the best in the conference.
“I expect Wednesday to be like Illinois and Michigan on steroids.”
