Bangot Dak’s rise continues in Colorado’s loss to Kansas

Sophomore Bangot Dak’s rise to potential stardom continued on Monday night in Colorado men’s basketball’s loss to the Kansas Jayhawks.

Although he had some rough moments defensively trying to slow Kansas All-American Hunter Dickinson, Dak added to his offensive highlight reel with multiple athletic plays, including an impressive putback dunk late in the second half. The 6-foot-11 forward from Nebraska finished with a team-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting while adding five rebounds and one block.

“My coach just tells me to put a lot of pressure on the rim because I’m a rim threat, so I was trying to do that a lot tonight,” Dak said after the Buffs’ 71-64 loss. “That also puts an emphasis on offensive rebounding, so I try to do that too.”

Dak is now averaging 8.2 points and 1.4 blocks on the season as arguably the brightest spot on a slowly-improving Buffs team.

Also of note, head coach Tad Boyle shared during his postgame presser that he regrets not forcing Dak to redshirt as a true freshmen last year.

“I’m so mad at myself for not making Bangot redshirt last year rather than asking him,” Boyle said. “He didn’t want to, and he didn’t. It’s unfortunate because he’d have another year of college in the back end that he’s not going to have, and I think he’s going to regret that.”
