BIRMINGHAM — Saint James girls basketball is onto the AHSAA state finals after dispatching Sylvania in the Final Four.
The Trojans will be looking for their first state title after three Final Four appearances and three more Elite Eights since 2017, all under coach Katie Barton. The Trojans took down the Lady Rams 63-44 on Tuesday at Legacy Arena.
The Trojans advance to play Lauderdale County at 12:30 p.m. on Friday also in Legacy Arena. Morgan Lilly led the way with 17 points for the Trojans, who had big games from Jordyn Mcrae who had 13 points and 14 rebounds and saw Natalie Barton and Kaitlin Mitchell score in double-figures.
The Lady Rams were led by Meredith Jackson with 15 points and Jaidyn Ashley with 12 points. They shot 31% from the field but did hit 11 three-pointers, keeping them in the game.

Saint James opened the game on a 16-3 run, through the first six minutes. Sylvania responded with a 20-6 run over the next six minutes to take the lead. Continuing the theme of runs in the first half, Saint James ended the half on an 11-0 spurt.
Mcrae led the way for the Trojans with nine points and eight rebounds in the first half with Jackson leading the with nine points for the Rams.
