Texas A&M falls out of the top ten in the AP Top 25 poll after going 0-2 in Week 17

The Texas A&M (20-7, 9-5 SEC) basketball team went 0-2 in Week 17, losing to Mississippi State and Tennessee, after a five-game winning streak.

The Texas A&M Aggies faced a challenging week on the hardwood, dropping both games to Top 25 teams. Despite strong defense and rebounding, their offensive production was bottom-tier. While the Aggies have managed to compensate against less talented teams this season and grind out tough wins, this week proved they will need more than just heart and willpower to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

The Aggies lost to highly-ranked teams, but the manner of their losses is cause for concern. Coach Buzz Williams allows his guards the freedom to take any shot they want, which isn’t an issue when they have good or decent games. However, during the two recent losses, the guards struggled with poor shooting nights and seemed to press too often, taking bad shots instead of setting up offensive plays to put pressure on the defense.

The Aggies have work to do to prepare for the end-of-season tournament, but they are capable of making the necessary adjustments.

In the latest rankings, Auburn remains the top dog, while Duke leapfrogged Florida for the No. 2 spot. The biggest drop of the week was Purdue, falling seven spots to No. 20, and the biggest jump was Michigan State moving up six spots to No. 8. The Aggies dropped five spots, landing just outside the top ten at No. 12.
