Mizzou’s next opponent is winless no more.

No. 16/14 Missouri basketball takes on South Carolina on Tuesday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Missouri, for a game against the team that just broke the longest active losing streak in the SEC.

South Carolina was 0-13 in SEC play before beating Texas 84-69 on Saturday on its home court, ending the possibility of matching Missouri’s winless mark from last season. The Gamecocks (11-16, 1-13) are coached by Lamont Paris, and have won just one road game this season.

Missouri (20-7, 9-5) lost at Arkansas on Saturday, which ended a three-game winning streak for Dennis Gates’ Tigers. Mizzou has only lost back-to-back games on one occasion this season, and is yet to lose a game that hasn’t been classified as a Quad 1 matchup.

In Quad 1 games, according to CBB Analytics, the only major metrics in which South Carolina is above the national average are free throw attempts and offensive/defensive rebounding percentage.

Since league play started, the Gamecocks are second in the SEC at limiting opponents on the offensive glass, ranking only behind Texas A&M, and are above average at getting back their own misses.

Only a handful of teams, including Mizzou, rank higher than USC at getting to the free throw line, where the Gamecocks take more than 22 shots per game.

That’s helped Paris’ team stay competitive in several of its SEC losses. The Gamecocks lost home games against ranked Auburn, Texas A&M and Ole Miss teams by a combined 10 points. They won the free throw battle in all of those matchups and had more second-chance points in…
