This season has been a memorable one for many reasons, with many weeks that stand out, including, of course, Tom Izzo breaking Bobby Knight’s Big Ten wins record against Illinois. However, I would say that this past week, where Michigan State basketball beat both Purdue and Michigan, two of their top rivals who are both fighting for a Big Ten title, was their best week of the season.
After the huge week, the Spartans made a big jump in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll back into the top ten. MSU moved up five spots to No. 8, sitting just behind Rick Pitino’s St. John’s team.
Michigan fell one spot to No. 12 after the loss, while Purdue fell five spots down to No. 19. Wisconsin is now the second-highest ranked Big Ten team, coming in at No. 12. Maryland, who Michigan State plays on Wednesday, comes in at No. 15.
