Bracketology: Marquette’s March Madness NCAA Tournament profile gets dinged up in February

The Marquette men’s basketball team has seen its NCAA Tournament profile get dinged up in February.

The Golden Eagles (20-7, 11-5 Big East) once seemed headed for a No. 2 seeding next month, but then they lost four of six heading into their final game of February on Tuesday.

After facing Providence on Tuesday, MU will have three more regular-season games remaining.

Each Monday, the Journal Sentinel will take a look at MU’s previous week and assess how its résumé has changed and stacks up to the competition.

March Madness term to know: What is T-Rank?

The T-Rank function on BartTorvik.com will be used for the first time this season on the team sheets examined by NCAA Tournament committee. Bart Torvik is a Madison native and lawyer who created the metric for ranking teams, which emphasizes recent results and takes out “garbage time” stats from late in blowout games.

MU is No. 32 in T-Rank.

Marquette basketball scores last week

Feb. 18 vs. Seton Hall: The Golden Eagles returned from a week off for an 80-56 victory over the Pirates at Fiserv Forum. MU’s bench players combined for 36 points, their most since a non-conference victory over Western Carolina.
