There are no easy ones left on the Alabama Crimson Tide’s regular season schedule.
Nate Oats’ team is in the midst of a grueling seven-game stretch against teams that are locks for next month’s NCAA Tournament. No less than three of those opponents could end up being No. 1 seeds come Selection Sunday: consensus No. 1 Auburn, No. 2 Florida, and No. 7 Tennessee.
For now, the Crimson Tide (22-5 overall, 11-3 SEC) helped their case for a No. 1 seed by rallying from a 12-point deficit and another dreadful start for a 96-83 win over the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday at Coleman Coliseum. Mark Sears had 30 points to lead Alabama past Kentucky, one game after the Tide’s worst performance of the season in a 110-98 loss at No. 15 Missouri.
Away from Tuscaloosa, Auburn and Florida continued on their respective marches through the SEC, Tennessee won a big Top 10 showdown in College Station against Texas A&M, and Missouri followed up its best win of the season with a clunker against John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks.
Much further down the standings, the SEC won’t feature a winless team in conference play for a second straight year after South Carolina delivered a big blow to Texas’ NCAA Tournament hopes with a 15-point win in Columbia.
Before Monday’s new Top 25 polls are released, here’s an updated look at the conference standings with just two week left in the regular season.
