CHAPEL HILL — UNC basketball’s Seth Trimble refers to himself as New York Knicks guard Josh Hart, according to head coach Hubert Davis.
“He calls himself Josh Hart. … That’s what he says,” Davis said Friday during a press conference at the Smith Center.
“If he keeps rebounding and playing as hard as him, then go for it. Even though he played on Villanova’s team when we lost (the national championship) in 2016, go for it. Great player.”

Trimble, a 6-foot-3 guard for the Tar Heels (16-11, 9-6 ACC), is on track to become the shortest player in UNC history to lead a team in rebounding average since at least 1950. He’s averaging 5.5 rebounds entering UNC’s game against Virginia (13-13, 6-9) on Saturday (4 p.m., ESPN) at the Smith Center.

TRIMBLE TALKS NC STATE: UNC basketball’s Seth Trimble reveals when he felt NC State ‘starting to crumble’ in rout
Hart, a 6-foot-5 guard with the Wildcats before becoming a key rotation player for the Knicks, averaged 5.6 rebounds during his four seasons at Villanova.
The Tar Heels have a 10-3 record when Trimble grabs at least five rebounds. In back-to-back victories against Syracuse and N.C. State, Trimble led the team in rebounding, pulling down eight boards against the Orange before grabbing seven against the Wolfpack.

Trimble and 6-foot-8 forward Ven-Allen Lubin have been UNC’s top rebounder in a team-best seven of 27 games.
When discussing Trimble’s “versatility as a basketball player,” Davis said the rebounding numbers highlight a point the fourth-year coach emphasizes with his team on a daily basis.
