CHAPEL HILL — UNC basketball coach Hubert Davis says “nothing has changed” in regards to the Tar Heels adding a general manager.
“I addressed it during the radio show,” Davis said Friday during a press conference at the Smith Center.
Two weeks ago, on his weekly radio show with UNC play-by-play announcer Jones Angell, Davis said an increase in staff is “needed” and “yes, we’re gonna hire a GM.”

On that show, he emphasized the need for a GM, while highlight the importance of protecting the “foundation” of UNC basketball, saying that “will never change.”
The fourth-year coach was asked again about those plans Friday, confirming his wishes to remain on track with adding a GM role for the Tar Heels.
“Nothing has changed, but I just want to stay away from commenting about that position,” Davis said. “I want to talk about basketball. That’s the only thing that’s on my mind right now is coaching and helping our team reach its full potential and be the best that they can be. That’s just where my focus is right now.”
UNC (16-11, 9-6 ACC), which has won back-to-back games, hosts Virginia (13-13, 6-9) on Saturday (4 p.m., ESPN) at the Smith Center.
