BOCA RATON — Florida Atlantic’s trip to Del Boca Vista did not go as planned Thursday night as the Owls fell to Wichita State 75-68 on “Seinfeld Night” at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.

Seinfeld was a television show about nothing, and the Owls (15-11, 8-5) would probably like to forget everything from the American Athletic Conference contest as their five-game winning streak was snapped by the Shockers (16-10, 6-7). Kaleb Glenn scored 16 points in the loss. Wichita State’s senior guard Xavier Bell led all scorers with 24 as the Shockers won their fifth straight, three on those on the road.

“I thought tonight, everyone at FAU gets an A+ except us,” FAU head coach John Jakus said. “Got to give Wichita State credit.”

The Owls, who are in fifth place in the AAC, return to action Sunday at No. 22 Memphis (21-5, 11-2), which leads the conference.

Here are three takeaways from the loss:

Sluggish first-half shooting puts FAU in deep hole

Kaleb Glenn led FAU with 16 points in the Thursday night loss to Wichita State in Boca Raton.

The Owls shot 11 of 32 (34%) from the field and 4 of 12 (33%) from three-point range in the first half and yadda, yadda, yadda …

Their porous shooting allowed the Shockers to lead by as much as 14 points late in the first half, going into halftime staring at an eight-point deficit.

Jakus noted that the slow pace of the Shockers’ offense may have thrown his team off balance, leading to many forced-shot attempts.

“Some of it is shots not falling, and some of it is the tempo,” Jakus said. “You see us at times almost force ourselves into running just because [Wichita State] walked it up so slow. It doesn’t feel like there was a rhythm for us.”

Missed free throws, costly turnovers hurt in second half

Florida Atlantic was able to claw its way back to tie or take the lead several times in the second half. However, a series of unforced errors cost the Owls at the end.

The Owls shot 8 of 13 (62%) from the free-throw line with many of those misses…
