Alabama to welcome Dick Vitale to Tuscaloosa for Saturday’s game against Kentucky

For the second straight week, ESPN is putting Alabama basketball in a national spotlight game.

This time around, ESPN’s visit to Tuscaloosa and its coverage of the Crimson Tide (21-5 overall, 10-3 SEC) will include a visit from beloved college basketball analyst Dick Vitale. “Dickie V” will be on the TV call for Alabama’s latest Top 25 matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats (18-8, 7-6), set for a 5 p.m. CT tipoff Saturday at Coleman Coliseum.

Karl Ravech will serve as the play-by-play announcer for ESPN, with Vitale and Jimmy Dykes as analysts.

Vitale made an emotional return to ESPN earlier this month after almost two full years away from broadcasts. The Hall of Fame broadcaster had been battling cancer since 2021, most recently lymph node cancer. In his first game back behind a microphone, Vitale called the Clemson Tigers’ 77-71 upset of the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils on Feb. 8 at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum.

Alabama is ranked No. 4 in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 poll. The Crimson Tide fell 94-85 last Saturday to No. 1 Auburn and followed it up with a 110-98 loss at No. 15 Missouri on Wednesday.

Kentucky is ranked No. 17 in the AP poll and No. 21 in the Coaches Poll. The Wildcats defeated Vanderbilt, 82-61, Wednesday night at Rupp Arena.

The Crimson Tide and Wildcats are meeting for the second time this season. Alabama defeated Kentucky 102-97 back on Jan. 18 at Rupp Arena behind 25 points from Grant Nelson and 24 from Mark Sears.
