Social media reacts to Wisconsin basketball’s big win over Illinois

[ad_1]

Wisconsin basketball continued its length stretch of statement performances with a 95-74 win over Illinois on Tuesday.

The Badgers snapped a nine-game losing streak to their rival with the result. More importantly, it was a near-perfect follow-up performance and result after the team’s season-defining win over Purdue on Saturday.

Wisconsin is now 21-5 on the season and 11-4 in Big Ten play. It is in position to challenge for the Big Ten title, as well as potentially land a top-two seed in the NCAA Tournament. Six games still separate it from the Big Ten Tournament and full postseason schedule. Before Tuesday, the Illinois matchup was among the most challenging remaining.

Expectations are sure to rise now that the Badgers turned that challenge into a 20-point win. If the team continues its current form, one that is approaching 50-year program records, it may be in store for its best March performance in a decade.

Before our postgame coverage continues and the national rankings update to reflect Wisconsin’s continued dominance, here are some of the best reactions from the win from Wisconsin fans, media and national analysts:

Wisconsin might be too good…

Things I didn’t expect to see this season.

Fans hitting the exits early against Illinois, because the #Badgers are winning by so much.

And without Gibbs-Lawhorn pushing for his career-high, this might be ugly.

CBS’ Jon Rothstein shares some context

Wisconsin has scored 80 or more points 15 times in a season for the first time since 1970-71.

The Badgers have NEVER scored the basketball like this in the modern era.
