UNC basketball vs NC State prediction: Will Elliot Cadeau, Tar Heels sweep Wolfpack?

UNC basketball is in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament and N.C. State is in danger of missing the ACC Tournament.

The season hasn’t gone as planned for the Tar Heels (15-11, 8-6 ACC) and Wolfpack (10-15, 3-11), programs that won an ACC championship in 2024. But they both have plenty to play for Wednesday (7 p.m., ESPN) at the Smith Center.

UNC has six games to improve its chances of making March Madness and State needs to string together wins in order to secure a spot in Charlotte. Only 15 of the ACC’s 18 teams will be competing at the ACC Tournament. The Pack, along with Miami (6-19, 2-12) and Boston College (10-15, 2-12), enter the week at the bottom of the standings.

The Heels are 31-7 against N.C. State at the Smith Center, including six wins in a row. The Pack will try to get its first win in Chapel Hill since 2018.

Elliot Cadeau assists, turnovers vs NC State

UNC sophomore point guard Elliot Cadeau is 26th nationally in assist rate (35.7%), but also has a turnover rate of 26.3%, according to KenPom.com. Last season, Cadeau had five games with four or more turnovers through 37 games. Through 26 games this season, Cadeau has 13 games with four or more turnovers. He had 11 assists, including the pass to Jalen Washington for the go-ahead dunk, and three turnovers in UNC’s win at N.C. State. The Wolfpack had 12 steals and forced 16 turnovers against Boston College. As UNC’s point guard, Cadeau has to become more consistent at taking care of the ball, starting Wednesday against the Wolfpack’s pressure defense.
