March Madness bracketology: Texas basketball teetering on NCAA Tournament bubble

Texas men’s basketball isn’t out of the race to March just yet.

After losing to potential first-seed Alabama, Texas’ tournament chances were on life support. However, Rodney Terry led his team to an 82-78 win over then-No. 17 Kentucky, giving the burnt orange a badly needed Quad-1 win. The Longhorns need to win at least three of their last five games to have the best chance of sneaking into March Madness.

Forward Arthur Kaluma missed the game against Kentucky. His status is unknown, though he could return for the Longhorns’ upcoming games along with guard Chendall Weaver.

The SEC’s depth is incredible this season, with eight to 10 teams having a feasible shot at making the NCAA Tournament. Texas is one of them, but consistency will be key as there are no easy wins on their schedule.

Texas freshman Tre Johnson is finding his confidence in college as an electric scorer. Kaluma is having a career year from 3-point range and Devon Pryor has been a pleasant surprise, but the Longhorns are not a lock to make it into the tournament.

NCAA Tournament: Will Texas qualify for March Madness?

ESPN: Joe Lunardi currently has Texas as a 10th seed in the South division of the bracket. The Longhorns would play Saint Mary’s in the first round before facing the second-seed Iowa State or 15th-seed Bryant.

CBS Sports: Jerry Palm has Texas as one of the last four teams in. The Longhorns would face BYU in the East division’s 11th-seed play-in game with sixth-seed Clemson awaiting in the first round
