Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Isaiah Evans among Duke basketball stars in win at Virginia

Duke basketball looked like it was going through a 5-on-0 drill in practice.

After blowing by the century mark in a blowout win against Stanford, the third-ranked Blue Devils followed that offensive onslaught with a vicious 80-62 victory at Virginia on Monday.

In an NCAA Tournament-like turnaround, Duke (23-3, 15-1 ACC) carved up the Cavaliers (13-13, 6-9) for its largest margin of victory at John Paul Jones Arena since 2010.

Duke’s Jon Scheyer, who is in his third season as head coach, had 20 points and five steals in that 2010 game. The Blue Devils then went on to win the national championship.

The only negative for the Blue Devils on Monday was the injury of Maliq Brown, who exited the game in the first half with what appeared to be a left shoulder injury. Brown didn’t return to the game, but he returned to the bench in the second half with a sling.

Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel and Isaiah Evans each scored 17 points, combining for 51 of the Blue Devils’ 80 points. Duke also had 42 points in the paint and a 41-21 rebounding advantage

Here’s a breakdown of the three stars from Duke’s road win at Virginia.

Cooper Flagg stats for Duke basketball vs Virginia

Duke freshman Cooper Flagg logged his seventh double-double of the season, finishing the first half with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Flagg, the projected No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, ended his night with 17 points and a season-high 14 rebounds, along with two blocks and two steals in 30 minutes.

The 18-year-old Flagg has reached 500 points, 100 assists and 30 blocks through 26 games. Earlier Monday, he was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the 10th time this season, matching the league record. He joined Duke’s Jabari Parker (2014), UNC’s Tyler Hansbrough (2006) and Kenny Anderson (1990) on that illustrious list, with a chance to pass all three before the regular season ends.
