LeBron James won’t play in Sunday’s NBA All-Star tournament.

The Lakers star announced Sunday afternoon that he’s dealing with ankle soreness and will sit out. James has been selected as an All-Star starter in each of his NBA seasons since his second in the league in 2004-05. His absence on Sunday will break a streak of 20 consecutive All-Star starts.

James was present at the All-Star site in San Francisco when he announced his status to reporters. His absence will leave Team Shaq shorthanded in the first rendition of the NBA’s four-team All-Star mini-tournament.

James was selected by Shaquille O’Neal in a draft to a roster featuring All-Star veterans. The seven-man roster already lost his former Lakers teammate, Anthony Davis, who’s sidelined with an adductor strain. Kyrie Irving was selected as Davis replacement, but James’ late scratch means that Team Shaq will play with seven players instead of a full roster of eight All-Stars.

Team Shaq

LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers
Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
Kyrie Irving, Dallas Mavericks (replacing Anthony Davis)
Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics
Kevin Durant, Phoenix Suns
Damian Lillard, Bucks
James Harden, Los Angeles Clippers
Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics

This is a breaking story that will be updated.
