On Sunday evening against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, the Oregon Ducks got a big win in a big way. Oregon dominated every facet of the game, out-shooting and out-defending the Scarlet Knights on their way to a 75-57 win.
Three-point shooting was the story of the game, as the Ducks — a team that hasn’t been tremendous from deep this season — finished 13/22 (59.1%) from three, generating 52% of their points. Rutgers was far less prolific from three-point land, making just four of their 19 three-point attempts.
Jackson Shelstad and Nate Bittle, Oregon’s dangerous little-big duo, were major factors in the Ducks’ win. Offensively, both players finished in double figures and shot 50% or better from the field and from three.
The Ducks’ Sunday win moves their win streak to two games, as they head into their final five games of the season. The Ducks have one more midwest road trip ahead before they return to the pacific northwest for the remainder of the regular season.
Oregon vs Rutgers Keys to the Game
Oregon’s three-point shooting in Sunday’s game was pure — something that’s been rare for the Ducks this season. In the first half, Oregon shot 6/10 from range, and in the second half, they finished 7/12.
After five quick turnovers to start the game, Oregon slowed things down and tightened up their ball security. The Ducks finished with nine turnovers, scoring 1.23 points per possession.
Defensively, Oregon was well prepared for Rutgers’ offense. The Scarlet Knights were consistently forced into late-clock situations and two shot-clock violations.
Led by Shelstad’s lightning speed, Oregon was once again very effective in transitional offense. Whether it was drives to the rim or a quick three, the Ducks were at their best when the offense was moving fast.
