NCAA Tournament committee projects Alabama basketball to earn a No. 1 seed

While February is mostly associated with the Super Bowl and the end of football season, I prefer to be more optimistic as the greatest sporting event of the year is right around the corner: March Madness. Selection Sunday is a month away from today, and 2025 could be the year the Alabama Crimson Tide breaks through and gets to the Championship game. In 2023, the Tide earned the top seed in the tournament, while in 2024, they qualified for the program’s ever Final Four but are still yet to play for a natty.

On Saturday, the NCAA committee announced who their top 16 seeds would be if the regular season ended today. Auburn earned the top spot on the list while Alabama was on their heels at No. 2. However, there will be some movement in the list after the Tigers knocked off the Crimson Tide in a top-two showdown on Saturday. Remarkably, five of the top six spots in the NCAA’s projected top 16 belong to the Southeastern Conference.

The Crimson Tide sits at 21-4 for the year, with six games left in the regular season. Of those six games, all will come against ranked opponents with the final three games all being top five matchups against Auburn, Florida and Tennessee.

Alabama will be back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to Columbia, MO to take on the No. 21 ranked Missouri Tigers.
