College basketball rankings: Where Kansas basketball ranks in coaches poll on Feb. 17

LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball fell in the latest update of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, but not completely out of the top 25.

The now-No. 25 Jayhawks (17-8, 8-6 in Big 12) were No. 20 at the time of the latest poll update. The issue is, since then coach Bill Self and company had to weather a more-than-necessary-challenging win at home against Colorado and a disappointing defeat on the road against Utah. Looking ahead, KU will face BYU on Tuesday on the road and then Oklahoma State on Saturday at home.

Coming into the season neither of those teams would be ones that someone would think should beat Kansas, but things have changed for the Jayhawks in recent weeks. They are more vulnerable to not just upsets, but losses in general. Beating those two teams will take their full attention.

Elsewhere in the top 25 in the Big 12 are No. 5 Houston, No. 8 Iowa State, No. 10 Texas Tech and No. 18 Arizona. Obviously, there are now Big 12 programs ranked behind Kansas. A pair of wins this week would do a lot to help right the momentum the program is currently experiencing.
