Tom Izzo becomes Big Ten’s winningest coach with MSU basketball’s win over Illinois

Tom Izzo officially the winningest coach in Big Ten history, earning his 354th Big Ten win when his Michigan State basketball team went on the road to defeat Illinois. The Spartans overcame an early double digit deficit to takeaway a big 79-65 victory.

As mentioned before, the start was anything but good for MSU, going down 16 with 8:53 remaining in the first half with a 31-15 deficit. From that point on, the Spartans found their way.

MSU outscored the Fighting Illini 22-10 to end the half, cutting the deficit going into the halftime break to a 4-point 41-37 deficit.

The second half was all Spartans, showing off their defensive prowess, while fighting a pro-Illinois whistle. The Spartans outscored Illinois 42-24 in the second half, cruising to the 14-point victory.

Jaxon Kohler was a monster tonight, leading the way with 23 points and 10 rebounds, securing the double double. Aiding his efforts was Tre Holloman with 14 points, while Jase Richardson had 11 points and Coen Carr had 10 points.

Michigan State will be back in action on Tuesday when they welcome in one of the Big Ten’s best in Purdue to the Breslin Center at 7 p.m.
