Fourteen SEC basketball teams are projected to make the NCAA Tournament according to ESPN’s latest bracketology. The SEC isn’t just great in football. It is also a powerhouse in basketball. The conference put together one of the best nonconference seasons in the history of any major conference this year.
The SEC is projected to have three No. 1 seeds in March Madness including the No. 1 overall seed in the Auburn Tigers. The SEC would set an NCAA Tournament record with 14 teams in the NCAA Tournament. The previous record is 11 teams in one tournament, which the Big East set in 2011.
However, the SEC has several teams on the bubble including the Georgia Bulldogs (last team in), Arkansas Razorbacks (last four in), Texas Longhorns (last four byes) and Vanderbilt Commodores (last four byes). One or more of these teams could easily miss March Madness as surprise teams steal bids in the NCAA Tournament by winning their respective conference tournaments.
