Bubba Cunningham refuses to say rival’s name in NCAA Tournament bracket preview

Ahead of a jam-packed day in college basketball on Saturday, the NCAA Tournament committee unveiled the top 16 teams for the 2025 NCAA Tournament in March. It’s a look at where teams stand as of now with just a month to go until Selection Sunday.

While North Carolina is still fighting for their tournament lives and really need a win over Syracuse on Saturday, they were still a key moment during the show on CBS. That’s because Bubba Cunningham played up the rivalry with Duke in a fun way.

As the broadcast was revealing the current No. 1 seeds, it came to Duke who are the third No. 1 seed in the tournament and the crew asked Cunningham to say the team. But he refused as he just couldn’t do that while representing North Carolina.

Take a look:

Cunningham is a chairman on the committee, so he’s involved with picking the field of 68 and seeding the teams for the tournament. But his UNC blood runs deep and he just couldn’t muster the words Duke out of his mouth.

It’s no secret Duke is having a big year and likely will be a No. 1 seed come March, while North Carolina is still teetering on the bubble. The Tar Heels need to go on a dominant stretch in their final seven games to avoid missing the tournament for the second time in four years.
