Riding a four-game winning streak, the Nebraska men’s basketball team played host to No. 25 Maryland on Thursday night. Though the Huskers brought momentum to the game with their winning streak, they failed to extend it, falling to the Terrapins 83-75.
After trading blows early on, Maryland held the lead for the final 27 minutes of play and went up by as much as 11. Though Nebraska closed the gap to 77-75 with a minute left, it allowed the Terrapins to score six unanswered to put the game away.
Maryland shot 31-of-53 from the floor, while Nebraska finished 25-of-58. The Terrapins struck primarily in the paint, outscoring the Huskers 42-26 in that part of the court. This is the opposite of the teams’ previous clash: Nebraska finished 32-24 in the paint in its January loss.
Juwan Gary and Brice Williams continued their charge in scoring, combining for 42 points after going 13-of-32 from the floor, 6-of-15 from beyond the arc, and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Gary scored a team-high 22 points, shooting 8-of-19 from the floor, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
Williams delivered 20 points, going 5-of-13 from the floor, 3-of-9 from three-point range, and 7-of-7 from the line. Andrew Morgan also cracked double-digits in scoring, racking up 15 points and shooting 5-of-6 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the line before fouling out.
Nebraska drops to 16-9 on the season and 6-8 in the conference. The team will travel east to face Northwestern on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network.
