What has been dubbed the Iron Bowl of basketball is here for Alabama and Auburn.
However, ESPN analyst and UA alum Rece Davis can’t get down with sharing the historic football tradition with basketball.
The “IBOB” has become a beloved title in the hearts of many Crimson Tide fans, but some like Davis aren’t in support of it.
“I’m not sure that I’m on board with the whole Iron Bowl of basketball thing,” Davis said on Friday.

“I mean, whatever people want to call it is cool,” Davis said. “But to me, when you’ve won as many championships in the conference as these two teams have, they kind of stand on their own.”

Davis suggested that Alabama and Auburn’s rivalry in basketball may not even “need a name.”
“Maybe you just do it like the Rocky movies, because they’re playing twice, we know,” Davis quipped. “They might play three times and they could play four.”
The first game of the Alabama-Auburn series kicks off on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum with ESPN’s GameDay broadcast will starting at 9 a.m. To close out the regular season, the Crimson Tide will head for the Plains on Mar. 8.
